The Tai Chi Classic is like a poem and is sometimes hard to understand. Things like when in movement be like the flow of the river and when in stillness be like the mountain or like when in movement yin and yang separate and when in stillness yin and yang integrate. Without proper understanding of Tai Chi and its principles this might be hard to understand but as a student learns more about Tai Chi the more the student understands the classics. This becomes a way that a student can test his understanding of Tai Chi by his or hers understanding of the Classics. Tai Chi Chuan Classics . A lot of people that teach Tai Chi often times don't use the Tai Chi Classics when teaching Tai Chi. There are three basic authors for the Tai Chi Classics Chang San-Feng (est.1279-1386), Wang Tsung-yueh [Wang Zongyue] (18th Century), and Wu Yu-hsiang (Wu Yuxian) (1812-1880) sometimes attributed to Wang Chuang-yueh. My instructor on the first day of class would give a copy to new students and also had the classics framed and put up on the wall.
